Iran basketball strikes 2nd win agianst Taiwan

TAIWAN, Aug. 30 (MNA) – Iranian basketball players on Sunday cruised to a 88-66 victory over Taiwan B in the second game of the 37th William Jones Cup.

Iran men’s national basketball team achieved an enthralling win over Taiwan B by 22 points at the 37th edition of William Jones Cup which kicked off Saturday in Taipei.

Iran opened its campaign in the 2015 William Jones Cup tournament on Saturday with a 77-46 win over South Korea by virtue of 13 points from Mohammad Jamshidi and another 10 from guard Mahdi Kamrani.

Iran will take on Japan on Monday at 11:30 Tehran time.

In the Saturday games, New Zealand defeated Chinese Taipei B 102-85, Russia selection won USA 84-65, and Taiwan A Japan 84-82. Russia also defeated South Korea in the second day of the tournament 86-84.

The William Jones Cup has been held annually since 1977, and the 2015 edition kicked off Saturday in Taiwan as eight of the nine teams entered into the tournament were in action.

Iran finished a disappointing 2-5 in the William Jones Cup last year after winning the event four of the previous five times. If the team continue to play like they did Saturday and Sundat, then the 2015 William Jones Cup could very well be a repeat of 2013, which saw them go undefeated en route to the title.

The 2015 edition of William Jones Cup International Tournament will continue until September 6.
